Let’s hear your love story!
Chad and I met in January 2008 at Stonehill College. I was a freshman and he was a sophomore (living in the freshman dorm!). It was the first night of second semester and we had just moved back into the dorm after Christmas break. My friends and I already knew Chad’s friends, so we went down to their rooms for a visit. I always have fun telling the story of this night because Chad’s bottom bunk bed was covered in PILES and piles of clothes, making it kind of awkward for us to sit down and chat. While we were visiting, Chad was trying to get ready and kept asking me to throw him a tee shirt from the piles, then a pair of socks, a belt, etc. I remember giving my best friend a look like, “who is this guy?!”. I sort of thought he was a weirdo. 🙂 Over the next few years, Chad and I became best friends, which of course turned into something more! We dated casually throughout college, but really got serious and fell in love after her graduated. The rest is history!
What’s your favorite thing to do on any given Saturday together?
Our favorite Saturday night usually involves going out to dinner in Boston, where we live now. We love trying new places to eat and finding a hidden gem among the Boston neighborhoods. Our friends and family tease us because we always share a meal whenever we go out to eat! We have tons of friends who live in the area, so a lot of the times we’ll meet them out at a bar for drinks. But on a night just for the two of us, we’ll head back to our condo and have a Netflix binge! We’re currently watching the whole series of the Sopranos.
What is one trait that you love about in your fiance?
Kelsey: I love that Chad is the single most friendly person I’ve ever met. He can strike up a conversation with anyone and become their best friend immediately. He makes everyone (especially me!) feel special.
Chad: The best way to describe what I like most about Kelsey is simply that she makes everything better. No matter where I am or what I am doing I always wish she was with me or think about how much more enjoyable it would be if she were here.
How did you/he pop the question?
Chad’s family and my family are very close and we love to spend a weekend together every summer at my parent’s cottage in Biddeford Pool, Maine. Since family is so important to us, Chad thought that weekend with both our families would be the perfect weekend to propose. He concocted a plan with everyone (besides me!!) to make a big proposal on Saturday (July 13, 2013). While everyone was relaxing in beach chairs, Chad asked me to go for a walk to the other end of the beach. I agreed, and little did I know that when we left, everyone ran up to the house to get champagne and appetizers! I also didn’t know that Chad’s sister (8 months pregnant at the time!) and brother-in-law were following close behind us with a camera. The next thing I knew, Chad was on one knee pulling out a ring! I was so surprised. I said yes! We spent the rest of the day and night celebrating with our families on the beach. It was the best day ever!
Who was the first person you told about your engagement?
Since both of our families were there when we got engaged, they knew first! I immediately called my best friends and extended family as well.
How did you decide where you wanted to get married?
Since both of our families have always vacationed in Maine, my family has a home there, and we got engaged there…Maine seemed like the best and most obvious choice for us!
What has been your favorite part of wedding planning?
My mom and I have had so much fun planning the little details of the wedding. We’re really excited about some personal touches that we’re including like a sangria bar, menu items from recipes from my favorite restaurant in Florence, Italy and our favorite lawn games!
What do you look forward to the most about being married?
Kelsey: I’m really excited to start our lives together as husband and wife. I can’t wait to call Chad “my husband”!
Chad: The things that I am looking forward to the most about being married is not knowing where our future will take us, enjoying each others company, keeping life simple, and not having to say the word fiancé anymore.
