Let’s hear your love story! We met in 7th grade Spanish class, although Alex doesn’t remember it. We were friends throughout high school and dated briefly. We sang together in chorus and walked to the library with our friends countless times. Alex remembers us meeting our freshman year of high school, when we took Honors World Studies together with our favorite teacher (who also happens to be our officiant!!) We dated for a heartbeat in our junior year, but it didn’t work out. We continued to be friends through our senior year, but lost touch once we graduated from high school. My senior year of college, Alex found a note that I had written to him in high school, so he reached out to me and we started talking again. It took a year of talking before he convinced me that we should go out!! After losing my dad unexpectedly, Alex became the person I would talk to on my bad days and on my good days, too. Our first date was The Muppet Movie. We became an official couple on December 7th, 2011 (a day that will live in infamy!). And exactly one year later, to the day – Alex proposed in Boston! (Which is a whole other story in itself!)
What’s your favorite thing to do on any given Saturday together? Our favorite thing to do on any given Saturday would have to be going to the movies and/or going thrifting, now that the weather is getting nicer, spending an afternoon at the beach is also one of our favorite things to do!!
Who’s better at Scrabble? That’s highly debatable. Alex says, “It depends on if you cheat or not!†I never cheat! My vocabulary is just better than his… We are competitive when we play board games! J
What is one trait that you love about in your fiance?
Alex – I like how smart Lynsey is, the brains!
Lynsey – I like that Alex balances me, he keeps me motivated when I procrastinate, and the opposite too, he keeps my type-A personality in check.
How did you/he pop the question?
So it’s kind of a funny story actually… So I (Lynsey) knew that Alex had planned a special anniversary trip to Boston, where we would be staying at the Millenium Hotel near historic Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.
I (Alex) created an itinerary full of special events to keep the two of us occupied and happy for the day, but because Lynsey wasn’t involved in the planning, she unintentionally thwarted the first set of plans – a walk on the Freedom Trail and a trip to Frog Pond to go ice skating. Of course, I (Alex) had a back up plan, so I had made reservations to Bricco, a lovely restaurant in the North End. I (Alex) also planned on taking Lynsey to the Skywalk Observatory in the Prudential Hub Tower where you can see a 360 degree view of Boston from the 50th floor. Lynsey and I made our way to the Prudential, and found where the Skywalk was located. We were surprised by how little foot traffic there was on the way to the tower. When we finally found the elevator to take us to the observatory, there was a sign that said that it was closed for a private function.
At this point I (Lynsey), totally sensed that something was up by Alex’s suddenly dejected mood. Trying to salvage a nice view of the city, I mentioned that I knew of a gorgeous fountain that is literally right next to the Prudential. So we made their way over to the fountain; which was drained. As if matters couldn’t get any worse – it started to rain, mind you this is DECEMBER. Not accepting defeat, Alex popped the question (despite the rain and drained fountain) next to a beautiful church with stunning stained glass. I said yes and the rest is history! J
Who was the first person you told about your engagement?
Alex – Prior to actually popping the question, the first people I told were my Grandparents and my Uncle. After the fact, my Mom.
Lynsey – My Mom and brother were the first phone call, followed by my best friend, Emily.
How did you decide where you wanted to get married? We chose together. Getting married in a place that had a good vibe to both of us was important. We looked at one place that looked like it could’ve been the set of a horror movie, complete with creepy statues; I don’t know what we were thinking. As well as a place with really snobby people, that was gorgeous, but we just couldn’t deal with the fact that the people treated us poorly. We found The Granite Rose and were wowed by their customer service and the overall feeling of being welcomed and comfortable there.
What has been your favorite part of wedding planning? The cake tasting was pretty awesome. Also, our engagement pictures were a major highlight. Convincing our favorite teacher from high school to officiate our wedding was pretty awesome too.
What do you look forward to the most about being married? Being done wedding planning. Haha. Starting the next chapter of our lives together will be a wonderful adventure!!
