What can I write about Gretchen and Kaleigh? I’ve been putting this off for a while now since I love them both so very much. We’ve been friends for years and I’m still a little heartbroken they don’t live here anymore. Trying to articulate how I felt about being a part of this wedding is beyond my writing abilities so lower your expectations ok? Thanks.
G and K are some of our closest friends. When Kaleigh was assigned to the Kodiak Base for the US Coast Guard, they decided to get married right before the move across the country. It was a true whirlwind and planned in no time at all. With such little planning time, it was incredible how stinking gorgeous everything turned out. It’s a testament to their good taste and their general life skills.
We met them at a tiny Airbnb in Cape Elizabeth, where they got ready together. They also spend HOURS preparing a special cocktail for after the ceremony for us all to share. After the dresses were zipped up and the LL Bean boots were tied tight, we headed out the door for Prout’s Neck. Along the way, Gretchen was pulled over for speeding(!) since she was basically racing to the ceremony spot. Thankfully the officer let us all off with a warning. How could he not right? That’s a first for us too… brides being pulled over before the ceremony? Unforgettable.
We bundled up and hiked to the point, photographing along the way. Maine has such a good mood to it along the coast. Once we got to the point, the choose a good spot on the rocks and the ceremony began. I don’t know if I was the one crying the most but I sure wasn’t alone. After heartfelt vows and letters from friends and family, they kissed and cheered! We all clinked our mugs together in celebration with the cocktail they had made earlier and the deed was done… in the best way.
At the end of this post, you’ll see a few images from Bissell Brothers brewery as well as a few polaroids. The polaroids were taken at the reception, where our fancy cameras were specifically banned. The Bissell Brothers photos were from the second ceremony they held to make it official with paperwork. It was complicated but they had two weddings in two days in two places with the same crew in attendance, me, dan, and Hester the officiant. Gotta make things official.
