Katie and Luke’s Munjoy Hill Engagement Session

Katie and Luke and their sweet Corgi Penny are moving away from Portland to a town nearby to be closer to both of their jobs. It is bittersweet for them which we completely understand. Thankfully we were able to have their engagement session in their neighborhood before they moved! The day was rainy leading up to the last hour before we were going to begin. It was funny that when the rain finally stopped the weather was absolutely unbelievable. We ALL raved about how glad we were that we didn’t postpone it since the skies were dramatic and the temperature was heavenly. This time of year in Maine is second to none and I am so glad that we got to spend some time out in the gorgeousness. Dan and I have a special place in our hearts for Munjoy Hill too since it’s where we lived when we moved here in 2008. Its where we fell in love with Maine.

I love when we photograph a couple that can’t stop kissing. Every time we said “Give her a kiss” Luke JUMPED at the opportunity. “You mean like we always do? I don’t want to stop.” I mean… what more could you ask for? A few of the spots we went included where they walk Penny every day, the spot they got engaged, as well as their rooftop deck. I would say it was an excellent choice of locations according to my “choose places that mean something to you” philosophy. We had so much fun with these two. Im not kidding about that dinner out together soon guys. Ok?

Courtney and Andrew’s Portland Maine Wedding

O you want us to photograph a wedding in our beloved Portland Maine?? YES PLEASE!

When Courtney and Andrew first wrote to us about their Portland Maine wedding, we were still living in Boston. We were SO excited about the prospect of coming to Maine to shoot their wedding we probably exclaimed “Yes” to our computer screen. Thankfully, Portland is our home now so it was even more fun to photograph than we originally thought, which is saying something. Courtney got ready at the Portland Regency Hotel along with all her bridesmaids. I loved how they were all dressed in navy or nautical clothing before they even changed into their dresses… unplanned and fantastic. Andrew got ready at their new house, so it was super meaningful too!

We headed over to St. Lukes Cathedral for the ceremony. It was SO gorgeous and we absolutely loved “meeting” a new local ceremony spot, (yes I know its a church first but thats just how our eyes are seeing things these days). After the ceremony we all headed to the Eastern Prom for more photos with the family, bridal party, and of course Courtney and Andrew. Next we headed to Grace Restaurant  for the reception. There were so many sweet toasts and surprise dances that it felt like everyone just wanted to tell them how much they loved them both. It was fun to witness. Our favorite bartender was even there working so we got to see another friend, (we are giving you a shout out Crystal… even though I think the Old Port magazine feature may be a little bigger of a deal). It was a great day and we were so happy to be a part of it.

Amanda and Doug’s Crescent Beach Engagement Session

We met Amanda and Doug at Crescent Beach State Park, just down the road from us! Amanda jumped out of their Subaru in a cute little romper and I knew this was going to be a fun one. We started in the parking lot because there was some bangin’ light that Dan knew just what to do with, (and you’d never know it was a parking lot from the photos). Next we made a bit of a misstep and went into the woods. I say it was a misstep only because we were SWARMED by mosquitoes and there was no escape until we made it to the beach, only after all of us were covered in welts. Whoops! These two were so laid back about it. We just all dealt with it, and ended up with some funny and fun photos! I also learned how to edit out mosquito bites. Win win?? We ended up at a little secluded beach with pink sand and no one there, overlooking the pretty Maine waters. I’d say it was worth it. Dan almost got taken out by waves for a few of the shots. Dare devil. We made our way over to the main beach and broke some rules climbing into the guard stand. I’m glad we did because it made for some rad photos. Lastly, we drove into Portland to one of their favorite parks, overlooking the city for a few night shots. It was hilarious, fun, adventurous, with awesome people, and in my beloved Maine. What more could you ask for??

Christa and Nick’s Portland Maine Lighthouses Engagement Session

It was cold outside when we met Christa and Nick at the Portland Head Light. It was one of the first days that it was undeniably “un-summer” and quite possibly “un-fall” at that. Good thing that meant Christa got to rock a military inspired jacket and super cute boots, am I right?? We took some images at one of the most iconic lighthouses in the United States, (yes its the one you’ve seen on every single lighthouse calendar ever). It was fun to add our images to the ever growing collection that exists in this world. After the Portland Head Light, we headed over to the Spring Point Ledge Light, which has an awesome jetty you can walk out on. The light decided to go bananas right at the end and the drama in the images was unmistakable. Hello Dark Skies and bright light! Ill take it!

Christa let it slip that it was her BIRTHDAY! She and Nick spent two hours of it with us, right in front of our cameras. I dare say we felt pretty honored. Typically we encourage our couples to go on a date after the session since they will be all dressed up, fancy, and spent the past couple hours cuddling and kissing. This time though we demanded they did since it was after all, her birthday! Here’s to another year filled with love.

Lyndsey and Ben’s Portland Maine Wedding

Finally we got to photograph a wedding in our favorite city, Portland Maine!

Lyndsey and Ben, (who are adorable as you can see on their “Meet Our Couples” blog post as well as their “Engagement Session” blog post), had a wedding that was a party and a blast the entire day! Typically there are a few different phases throughout the day, but it was honestly a fun-fest from before we got there until after we left. We met the girls at the O2 Salon, because Ben and his guys were going to be a few minutes late due to the fact that they were shooting guns like good ole’ boys. Fact. The girls were chillin’ at the salon, on time, and having a blast. Once we were all ready, we headed to the chartered SCHOOL BUS to take us around the city and have a photo taking fiesta. Lyndsey and Ben had their first-look in private and then it was ON with all their bridal party, them, and us. We went all over Portland, taking photos at Widgery Warf, the Old Port, and inside Gritty’s Brew Pub. They were having so much fun, the bartender thought they were celebrating post-wedding. When he found out it was PRE-ceremony he was highly impressed and said he had more respect for them now. I don’t get it but it is pretty funny just the same. My favorite moment of the ceremony was when they passed their rings through the family in the crowd so they could bless the rings before they were exchanged. It was a really unique moment that I really loved.

After the ceremony, the family had a private toast upstairs at the Port City Music Hall. Next they headed downstairs and tapped two kegs to get the reception started. We did a took more couple photos, including a few mini-couple sessions for their Bridal Party, as a gift from Lyndsey and Ben to their friends. It was super fun! The dance party began and didn’t stop. I felt like we have JUST arrived on scene when we had to leave. When our friend Brandy came to pick us up, I wanted to come back in and crash it with her and get our dance on! Yay for Lyndsey and Ben and their INCREDIBLY fun wedding!
