Peaks Island Maine Wedding: Kaylyn and Evan

A wedding on Peaks Island always has that little something special. Being on an island means you have to try just a little harder to plan, just a little harder to coordinate and just a little harder to make it happen. I love it when our couples put in that extra effort. Kaylyn and Evan were so ready to be husband and wife. All day Kaylyn was buzzing about so ready to walk down the aisle. She laughed, cried and jumped around when she got into the dress and put on the veil. Evan cried when she walked down the aisle in the backyard of a family cottage. With the ocean backdrop, they said “YES!” and before you knew it, the deal was done.

It was a super super hot day here in Maine. The light was bright and the sun was was cooking us all with its delicious heat. I was pretty impressed with the dancing that took place at the reception in spite of the humidity. Props to you guys. Evan wrote the first dance song AND a special song for his mother son dance. How cool is that? Then a surprise ukulele band comprised of family and friends played a special song and then walked down to the ferry dock to send the couple off on their Hawaiian honeymoon. Such a cute and fun day.

Potland Headlight Elopement: Renee and Scott

Renee and Scott booked us for their elopement a mere 9 days before their wedding! We were so excited that we were available to photograph it since it was such a close time frame. We also were thrilled to photograph a wedding at one of our own favorite lighthouses.

Lighthouses are a meaningful part of their dating story, so getting married by the iconic Portland Head Light added another lighthouse to their love story. A small gathering of friends and family were witness to these two committing to one another for life. In a short ceremony they spoke their truths and became husband and wife. We spend a little while with them afterwards and photographed them in the park. Then they were off for a dinner of lobster to celebrate.

It was simple and sweet and right up our alley!

Diamond Island Maine Engagement Session

When Jess and Eric reached out to us for their wedding we were elated. The reason being is that we already knew their family from photographing Chet and Julie’s wedding a couple years ago. The opportunity to photograph another member of the family is, and always will be, a huge honor. They are salt of the earth good folks and we were thrilled to see them all again at the wedding, (coming to the blog next week)!!

Before the wedding we spent a couple hours with Jess and Eric on Diamond Island, a small island just off the coast of Portland in the Casco Bay. Formerly a military base through WWII, the island is now home to a handful of residents and lots of Maine charm. It was a treat to head out there and see just a few more puzzle pieces of what makes Maine so wonderful. That, and we got to hang out with their cute pup too.

Portland Maine Sailboat Wedding: Dan and Kristen

We met Dan and Kristen when we first moved the New England back in 2011! They both worked at Charles River Canoe and Kayak with us, Dan even taking us out for dinner on one of our first nights in Boston. They came over to our house for Superbowl Parties, and group watching of The Bachelor. We went over to their house for Cookie Parties at Christmas. They beat us to moving to Maine but we soon followed and of course are still friends. When they planned their Sailboat wedding we were dying for an invite, and even more honored when they invited us to photograph it for them. Dan is a landscape photographer and Kristen is a painter, so we took it as a high compliment to be taken in as artists with them.

Besides their art world, they are equally ocean-minded people, both as salty and sea-legged as you can find without going into the realm of storybooks. Kristen builds boats for goodness sakes! There was no other place that they could even consider getting married other than floating on the big blue sea.

We met them at their house where they got ready together and then headed over to the docks to meet their family and get sailing! On the boat we headed to the Portland Head Light, where they said their vows in sight of the famous lighthouse. Next we sailed to Cow Island where they treated their family to a lobster bake. Then we all headed back to Portland as the sun set. I kept pinching myself throughout the day because it almost felt surreal to be a part of such a unique and special wedding.
