Newagen Seaside Inn Wedding: Julie and Jim

Hailing from Wisconsin, these two chose beautiful Mid-Coast Maine for their intimate wedding. Since it was a destination wedding and everyone was from away, they had their wedding on a Monday! Talk about a good way to start the week right?

We firmly believe that the nicest people we have met are either from Canada or the Mid-west and Jimmy and Julie are no exception.  Completely open to our photo ideas and 100% welcoming, we had a wonderful day at work while all their family and friends had their own wonderful day too! One of my favorite moments in the day was when Julie was totally into the idea of getting ready out on the porch, since that was the best light I could find that time of day. After their first look on the docks, they had their ceremony, in view of the summer home of Margaret Hamilton, the wicked witch of the west.

Maine Magic.

After cocktails, emotional first dances, and funny sweet toasts, we ventured to the rocks with Julie and Jimmy to witness a classically beautiful Maine sunset. We were all in awe of how pretty it was and our photo ideas were too many to fit into the limited time the sun was allowing. This is a good problem to have of course. We had such a fun time with them, one of those photo sessions you remember feeling great and just enjoying every moment. Again I say, Maine Magic.

Private Maine Island Intimate Wedding: Laura and Kevin

Dan and I have been to a lot of weddings. A lot. Big crazy parties and tiny little elopements. Glamorous places and Exotic locations. Of all that we have seen, this might be the closest to what we would want for ourselves if we could get married all over again. The thing about it is that even if we could recreate it completely for ourselves, the magic would be gone because what made this even more special was the location. We dont have the history here and we never can. That belongs to this precious family alone.

Laura and Kevin were married on a beautiful foggy day, on a private island that belongs to her family, and has for generations. John Singer Sargent painted here and walked the trails alongside her great grandfather. The depth of the connection to this place was unmatched and can’t be bought with all the money on the earth. That is the reason this day and this place and this experience can only be theirs.

Getting ready in the cottages on the island, these two met up under a whalebone arch for their first look. Laughter and tears ensured and we made our way to the ceremony where they heard a poem her Dad wrote for the occasion. Im still baffled how he got through reading it without crying. It was pretty epic. Through streaming tears Kevin tried to say his vows to Laura before she decided she’d go first since he needed a moment to collect himself. He did make it through the second attempt and just like that… they were husband and wife.

Together, forever, like an island

Bound by walls of iron and surrounded by the sea…”

House Island Maine Wedding: Liz and Max

Talk about one for the memory banks. You guys!

This wedding.

Was.

incomparable.

All Liz and Max really wanted from their wedding was for there to be a good time; for all their guests to enjoy themselves and to experience love and happiness. They weren’t interested in a ton of couple photos or all the details. They just wanted FUN. Now we did take some sweet couple portraits in the fort and the details were second to none (you rock our world Cairn Events), but I want to stress that for them the focus was on their friends and family and boy did they deliver and that.

Liz got ready with her sisters and her mom, putting on some killer stilettos for her first look with Max in the fort. I was so worried about her ankles but she insisted that she wanted to wear them for Max to look killer. I can respect that. We hung out in the fort with them a little while and then it was time to sign the Ketubah! Its wild how fast things move on a wedding day. After the Ketubah they had a cocktail hour before the ceremony since on a Saturday, they needed to wait until Sundown to have the Jewish Ceremony. Lit only by candles they said their vows by the ocean, followed up immediately by an EPIC fireworks display that seemed to last longer the the 4th of July! Dinner served tapas style, delicious Bard Coffee, and a dance party till 4 am. Are you getting an idea of how incomparable this one was you guys? So incredible to be a part of and we were honored to be a part of it.

Pittsfield Maine Wedding: Abigail and Noel

Writing about this wedding is hard for me because I honestly feel like these two had one of the most perfect love focused weddings we have ever been too… most especially in the execution of the ceremony itself. Oftentimes, in our generation, the ceremony seems to fall to the background with the planning and the sentiment is almost “Let’s get this over with to so we can PARTY.” I get that to some extent but having witnessed this ceremony of pure love it made me fall in love with ceremonies all over again!

After getting ready and hanging out together, Abigail and Noel greeted their guests for a pre-ceremony cocktail hour. Since the weather was a bit wet most of the morning, they just played the ceremony time by ear. Once the rain broke, everyone walked over to the area where the ceremony was going to take place, formed an aisle, and Abigail and Noel walked down the aisle together, holding hands. All through out the ceremony they laughed, cried, and jumped the gun on the first kiss at least a dozen times, which I absolutely loved! So much kissing! Once it was official, everyone cheered and hugged and the party continued from before… into the night.

The reception was SO COLORFUL and every place setting had a set of sparklers alongside the silverware. Lobster Rolls, Fried Chicken, Cornbread and delicious treats were served while heartfelt toasts with Ani Difranco quotes filled the air. A fireworks show right before the dancing started, set just the right mood for the rest of the night. It was a P-A-R-T-Y and we were lucky to be there.

Edgecomb Maine Wedding: Krista and Adam

Our number one jam here in Maine is to photograph weddings on private land. We love the meaning it holds and the feeling it gives to everyone in attendance. Krista and Adams wedding at her family cottages in Mid-Coast Maine were right up our alley! Adam arrived at the cottages just in time for a big huge rainstorm to hit. The ladies were just finishing up and the plan was to take Krista’s fathers boat and arrive via water to the cottages. It looked like it wasn’t going to work out but Krista put her foot down and said I’m taking my fathers boat. I don’t care if I’m late. I’m going with my Dad. I loved that. When brides know what they want and go for it even though everyone is suggesting otherwise is just what I respect. It reminded me of Danielle sticking to her guns and heading up to Cadillac Mtn for portraits on her wedding day. Go ladies. GO.

We arrived by boat.

The ceremony was full of sweet stories and memories and fun vows. With that first kiss, the cocktail hour was up and running with fun drinks and delicious snacks. Did we mention Adam was a chef. Yeah.. the food was delish. The rest of the night consisted of even more food that rocked our world (gimme more pork tostada!!!!) and surprise fireworks, and one of the most gorgeous Maine vistas we have ever seen: foggy, calm, river reflecting a stunner sunset. Such a good time.
