Exeter New Hampshire Wedding: Helena and Tim

We adore photographing intimate weddings. Helena and Tim planned a sweet wedding for themselves at the Exeter Inn in New Hampshire. With only their most honored of guests, (including their sweet pup), they were married… in a matter of minutes. We were connected to these two thanks to a couple we photographed back in 2012: Lisa and Suzy! It was a joy to see them again too! One of my favorite parts of the day was just watching the two of them laugh. Helena and Tim know themselves so well and they know who they are. The comfort level they have for one another is the kind of happy we should all work towards with our partners. Yay for intimate weddings amiright?

Lake Winnepesaukee Summer Camp Wedding: Anna and Brian

I literally had to take a good deep breath just now.

This wedding.

I’ve been avoiding writing this blogpost for a while because it’s just been too big, too heavy on my mind. How exactly am I supposed to sum up something that is both really happy and really sad? I’m going to give myself some grace on this one and just write how I feel and what I can and then just let you guys read it and not worry about actually trying to do it justice because I don’t think that’s really possible.

Anna and Brian were already married before this day. They had to rush a small wedding in the summer because both of their fathers were terminally ill with cancer. Knowing that they just wouldn’t know for sure if they would both be around for the big New Hampshire wedding, they went ahead and got married with both their Dad’s present. Fast forward to this day, both their dads were there for this one too so the celebration was whole and complete.

We met Anna and Brian in 2015 at Anna’s brother’s wedding to Nji. You gotta see their wedding too by the way. Such a good time. We love their family so we were so happy and honored to be invited back to photograph Anna’s wedding. This also meant that the fact that her father was sick hit a little harder with us because we knew their family.

The wedding was so much fun and was one of those days I was again reminded of how cool the weddings we photograph are. I mean look at the bridesmaids dresses you guys! I adored all Anna’s styling from head to toe. They were married in the outdoor chapel along the lake, with her brother Russell officiating. The way Brian looked at Anna throughout the day was so tender and we were digging it. After the ceremony we headed to the outdoor cocktail hour and then into the camp dining hall for dinner and toasts. Next we all headed over to the dance hall for a party to remember, complete with my favorite moment of the night when Anna’s sister Tizzy accidentally unplugged the DJ and sound system during the party. Amazing. (Love you Tizzy).

A mere two weeks after this special day, Anna, Tizzy, and Russell’s dad passed away. It broke my heart but I was also filled with gratitude that I was able to meet him and photograph such momentous events in their family with him present. His ashes are to be spread right in the outdoor chapel they were married in so the whole place will hold a rich meaning (as Anna told me). Thankfully Brian’s dad is doing ok at the moment so hopefully he will be there for Brian’s brothers wedding this summer!

Verona Island Maine Wedding: Abby and Brian

I imagine that Abby and Brian’s private backyard farm wedding on an island in Maine is kinda a dream wedding for lots of couples. It was almost like out of a Maine fairy-tale really.

Hear me out: The weather was unbelievable. The ladies got ready in a cabin along the water. The ceremony took place it perfect light. The decor was creative and fun, unique and personal. The reception had both live music and a DJ. There was a lighted teepee and a bonfire. The dancing was hilarious, sweaty, and phenom. She wore two on trend and comfortable wedding dresses. Are you with me yet?

It was a wonderful night to be a friend of these two and also to be a photographer.

Juneau Alaska Portrait Session: Josie and BJ

While in Juneau, you KNOW we wanted to photograph our friends Josie and BJ. The light in Juneau was easy-peasy however there was not a lot of it. Our days were dictated by the sunlight and how much time we had left before it was dark again. If we ever wanted to do anything in the daylight, we had to hustle to get up and get going in time. With this session, we spend the first 20 minutes with their kiddos at the glacier, then rushed to a friends house to hand of the little ones, then rushed across the bridge to this location to have only 30 min to bang out some photos with these two. When I say we chased the light, I am most definitely being serious.

Also… Josie… that red coat was everything in these photos. Fashion win.

#bdtravlin: Juneau Alaska

Over thanksgiving, Dan and I went out to Juneau Alaska to visit our friends The Becks. Dan went to college with Josie and they were actually one of the few guests at our wedding in 2008. Ever since they moved to Juneau from St Louis, I have always wanted to visit them and see this mythical place! The stars aligned finally and we hopped a plane (which is actually one of my least favorite things to do) and flew to the great state of Alaska once again.

The first thing we did after a good nights sleeps was go sledding with the whole “fam damnly!” (My mom used to say that… fam damnly. Get it?)

Honestly, how cute was that you guys? I also appreciated that I found a “beach” reference on a mountain. It’s in my blood people.

Juneau is the capital of Alaska and they have a really cool downtown. We went to the Alaska State Museum which I highly recommend.

The coffee consumption was also out. of. control. Two spots we frequented: Heritage Coffee and the Rookery Cafe.

There was also the important task of Christmas shopping going on so we did a lot of that. While we were there the Juneau Public Market was going on, which is basically the ultimate shopping experience for local crafts and cuteness. A lot of the shops from town had booths.

Here are a few of my favorites… and you can also order online so get stoked:

Tanna Design: Knitted goodies! Josie bought a couple things here for herself and her kiddos. I already had a knitted hat that a friend knitted for me so I passed but now I’m kinda regretting it looking back at their website. So fun!

Trickster Company: I bought lots of prints here from gifts AND for myself plus a christmas ornament and stickers. I was in.to.it.

Kindred Post: This place was almost too much to handle in greatness. Jewelry to die for (definitely bought some), adorable prints (bought 2), accessories, perfume, paper goods etc etc. I also bought Dan’s christmas gift here and Josie and I had to do some secret stuff to get it to NC.

Tree Top Tees: SO FREAKING SOFT! I would have replaced my whole wardrobe here if money was no option. I still have my eye on the Alaska State Flag hoodie. Dan and I bought one tee to share because thats just the kind of relationship we have.
I also indulged myself and bought a pair of Xtratufs, which are the only shoe Alaskan’s wear apparently. I’ve coveted them from afar (via Josie wearing them in every photo she posts on social media) and she took me to the local Western Auto to get myself a pair of these bad boys. I made a rather controversial move and went with the low-tops. They fit both Dan and me so thats awesome. I’ll admit to also STILL wanting these because of the fold down cute thing, which is a total look in Juneau.

On Thanksgiving Day, Dan and I took a little trip out to The Shrine of St Therese. It was one of the most peaceful places I have ever been. The sound of the water lapping up to the shore paired with the silence of snow. I was feeeeeeeling it you guys. Anyone want to get married out there… call us.

One evening we went to the local glacier with Josie and took a few photos while there. Josie is literally one of the most encouraging people I know. The whole time you are with her she just sends positive vibes, encouraging words and honest questions your way. You just feel better about yourself when you are around her and I hope that some of that rubbed off on me while we were there. Not as important but she’s also G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S and I’ve always been slightly in love with her look and easy-going effortless beauty. Josie girl… Im so glad we are friends and that Dan brought us together.
