Liz and Chip’s Orland Maine Wedding

Liz and Chip held their wedding at Liz’s Grandparents lake house in Orland Maine, coincidentally right across the lake from where Kate and Emily had their wedding this past July. It is an amazing property complete with the most epic blueberry field, just right for taking photos of this lovely couple and their friends. I could not, and have not, gotten over Liz’s incredibly styling. Please take note of her dress and jewelry. It was timeless, classy, and SO MUCH FUN to photograph. Her mother is a photographer so Liz was completely comfortable in front of the camera too, which made things pretty simple when it came to portraits. We were definitely not complaining.

The ceremony was held in a 200 year old church and the guests were shuttled from the ceremony to the reception via yellow school busses. They had the cocktail hour in the backyard with their family pets roaming around and mingling with the guests. After the cocktail hour everyone moved further into the woods to a tented reception where the champagne and dancing both flowed without end. It was a blast.

Courtney and Andrew’s Portland Maine Wedding

O you want us to photograph a wedding in our beloved Portland Maine?? YES PLEASE!

When Courtney and Andrew first wrote to us about their Portland Maine wedding, we were still living in Boston. We were SO excited about the prospect of coming to Maine to shoot their wedding we probably exclaimed “Yes” to our computer screen. Thankfully, Portland is our home now so it was even more fun to photograph than we originally thought, which is saying something. Courtney got ready at the Portland Regency Hotel along with all her bridesmaids. I loved how they were all dressed in navy or nautical clothing before they even changed into their dresses… unplanned and fantastic. Andrew got ready at their new house, so it was super meaningful too!

We headed over to St. Lukes Cathedral for the ceremony. It was SO gorgeous and we absolutely loved “meeting” a new local ceremony spot, (yes I know its a church first but thats just how our eyes are seeing things these days). After the ceremony we all headed to the Eastern Prom for more photos with the family, bridal party, and of course Courtney and Andrew. Next we headed to Grace Restaurant  for the reception. There were so many sweet toasts and surprise dances that it felt like everyone just wanted to tell them how much they loved them both. It was fun to witness. Our favorite bartender was even there working so we got to see another friend, (we are giving you a shout out Crystal… even though I think the Old Port magazine feature may be a little bigger of a deal). It was a great day and we were so happy to be a part of it.

New Hampshire Wedding: Lynsey and Alex

Almost exactly one year to the day, we met Lynsey and Alex at 5:30 in the morning for a sunrise engagement session. The morning of their wedding day was very different though, due to downpours! As we drove to the wedding we kept repeating “better now than later on,” with fingers crossed the rain would stop for their outdoor ceremony. It was as if the rain clouds were on the wedding day schedule, because right as we needed to go outside for portraits, the rain stopped, and held off for the rest of the day. Lynsey and her ladies all prepared at a local B&B and then we all headed to the ceremony. Dan and the guys met us there and it felt like they walked down the aisle within minutes of arriving. Wedding day’s move so fast!  After the ceremony, we headed inside for a rocking reception with lots and lots of dancing! It was fun so see how kind and loving Alex was to his bride all day long. One of my favorite moments was when he wiped away her tears during the ceremony. He is so tender. Enjoy a NH wedding with these two!

Theresa and JJ’s SURPRISE New Hampshire Camp Wedding

You hear about a surprise wedding once in a blue moon. I know that Julie Roberts had one. When Theresa emailed us about their idea for one we were ELATED! All their guests were invited to an engagement party, which was pretty believable since Theresa and JJ live in California and it would make sense for them to have a celebration with lots of folks when they were in town. Bingo! It was a little bit different of a structure for obvious reasons so the photos are in order of events for you.

We started at the cabins where they were getting ready. Their immediate family knew what was happening so they were hanging out with us in the prep area. Once everyone was ready, Theresa put on a white cocktail dress and we headed up to mingle with the engagement party guests at a cocktail hour. A little while into the event, Theresa and JJ said they had an announcement to make that went something like this: “We are so glad you all made it here to celebrate our engagement and we love you all so much. We have something to confess though… that today is not our engagement party but it’s OUR WEDDING DAY!” There were gasps and screams and lots of happy tears. Theresa ran into a nearby cabin to put on her wedding dress and everyone else was in charge of setting benches in place for the ceremony, taking place just 10 min after the announcement!

From that moment on, it was a wedding day for all the guests, with all the fun that goes along with it! A gorgeous reception planned by All the Fuss Events complete with tiny horse details to honor JJ’s late sister. We were SO happy to be a part of this one and it was all we dreamed it would be… and better. Enjoy this one you guys!

Lobstering

Way way back in 2008 I decided that one thing on my bucket list was to ride in a lobster boat. It may seems small but I REALLY wanted to but we didnt know anyone who would take us for a ride on one. Once we started photography, my dream evolved into wanting to photograph the lobstering process on a boat. Im kind of a stickler for authenticity so I needed it to be a scenario where we were welcomed onto the boat with a lobsterman (or woman) who didn’t mind us being there photographing. It was kind of a tall order.

Enter Abbi and Javi in 2012. We photographed their Camp Wohelo wedding. Abbie’s dad is a lobster fisherman! I mentioned wanting to do this with them but never really expected it to happen since its kind of logistically challenging since Abbie and Javi live in Miami. Then… they called us for some maternity photos. They thought it would be a perfect time for the lobster boat event AND some maternity photos and we.were.so.excited!!!

We will share Abbie’s photos next on the blog but here are a few from our time with them on the boat!

O and by the way, they didnt just let us photograph them… we put on the Grundens ourselves and got to get our hands dirty!! It was more than a dream come true.
