Bar Harbor Elopement: Michelle and Skyler

Elopements you guys…. SO GOOD!

Michelle and Skyler decided to have a private ceremony, as they termed it, “a wedding for two.” As they mentioned in their “Meet Our Couples” blog post, “Bar Harbor seemed like the perfect spot, since Sky grew up near and loves the Ocean, and Michelle has fallen in love with the rocky coast/scenic views. It is far enough from home that it makes a nice getaway trip for an elopement/honeymoon, but close enough that we could revisit it and relive our wedding for years to come.” I mean… you can’t argue with that logic. I love that they are already planning on revisits to celebrate again and again.

They had their ceremony on the lawn of the Bar Harbor Inn and Spa, with us and the officiant as the only witnesses. After making things official, we piled into the car and headed into Acadia for portraits of the two of them. It was their first time seeing the National Park so it was so fun to show it off to new eyes! Every single place we were, Michelle heard compliments on her dress, which was fun. I think it might just be the most complimented dress we have ever photographed. #winning

We love the laid back feel that elopements provide and Michelle and Skyler’s wedding was just that… relaxed, romantic, and all about love.

Private Maine Island Intimate Wedding: Laura and Kevin

Dan and I have been to a lot of weddings. A lot. Big crazy parties and tiny little elopements. Glamorous places and Exotic locations. Of all that we have seen, this might be the closest to what we would want for ourselves if we could get married all over again. The thing about it is that even if we could recreate it completely for ourselves, the magic would be gone because what made this even more special was the location. We dont have the history here and we never can. That belongs to this precious family alone.

Laura and Kevin were married on a beautiful foggy day, on a private island that belongs to her family, and has for generations. John Singer Sargent painted here and walked the trails alongside her great grandfather. The depth of the connection to this place was unmatched and can’t be bought with all the money on the earth. That is the reason this day and this place and this experience can only be theirs.

Getting ready in the cottages on the island, these two met up under a whalebone arch for their first look. Laughter and tears ensured and we made our way to the ceremony where they heard a poem her Dad wrote for the occasion. Im still baffled how he got through reading it without crying. It was pretty epic. Through streaming tears Kevin tried to say his vows to Laura before she decided she’d go first since he needed a moment to collect himself. He did make it through the second attempt and just like that… they were husband and wife.

Together, forever, like an island

Bound by walls of iron and surrounded by the sea…”

Acadia Engagement Session: Olivia and Chandler

We love meeting people from all over the country. It’s really fun to see how different and yet similar we all are. Olivia and Chandler are from Wisconsin, but are living in Maine for a short time this year due to a job. While they are here in the state, they opted to have their engagement photos taken in one of the state’s most beautiful places: Acadia National Park! The best part? These two had never been to Acadia until they were here in the car with us!

We started the session with a few warm-up photos in Bar Harbor. These two didnt really need much warming up though. They are super cute and snuggly and full of love and life. We just gave em a few things to do and they ran away with it! After Bar Harbor, we headed into Acadia, to Sand Beach and the Otter Cliffs. Dan and I marveled at how incredible the light was for the whole 2 hours, while these two just giggled, kissed, and ran around. It really was a blast.

Bar Harbor Maine Wedding: Danielle and Josh

After over 5 years of photographing weddings, we were finally invited to photograph a big classic wedding at the Bar Harbor Club in Bar Harbor. We have been to photograph engagement sessions, family sessions, and even an elopement… but we really wanted a chance to photograph a full-scale event in one of Maine’s most treasured places. Enter Danielle and Josh…

Danielle and Josh are high school sweethearts! Photographing couples who know each other this well is always fun. There is a comfort there that’s hard to replicate. We have been excited about their wedding ever since their engagement session in Portland. It did not disappoint. Watching Josh wipe tears from both his face and hers during the ceremony was sweeter than sugar. Danielle was dead-set on having her photos taken at the top of Cadillac Mountain, despite a timeline crunch. Having a bride with such a strong commitment to her wedding photos is really the best ever!!! We made it to the top of Cadillac Mountain with 15 minutes to make magic, and we will never ever forget it. Acadia did us all right that day. The sparkler exit finale was electric and the couple ran off into the night together, setting off on their next adventure.

Amber and Colin’s Bar Harbor Maine Elopement

Amber and Colin live in NC, our home state! It was fun hanging out with some fellow North Carolina people on a sweet Saturday in May. They chose to elope way up here in the great state of Maine, simply because they thought it looked like a beautiful place (never having been here before). Now THAT is my kind of couple! Amber’s sister Megan came to officiate in a little gazebo overlooking the harbor. After their vows were said and the kiss was given, it was official! We all commented on how fast it happens once you are actually having the ceremony itself. Dan and I were the witnesses, signing the license, which was one of the big things on my wedding photography bucket list. Talk about an honor right?! The light was crazy too this evening. Take a moment to look at the sky in these photos. So much drama which is exactly how I like our photos. We spent the next couple hours strolling around the little town, even finding a USPS mailbox that we could send the license out with! Who ever get to witness that part eh? It’s a pretty important part too! We love photographing weddings like this and are so happy for these two!
