Brooklyn NY Wedding: Lynsey and Elwood

Another wonderful wedding weekend in New York City for us! Can you pinch me next time you see me because it’s incredible that we get invited into these weddings that are held in such rad places.  Lynsey and Elwood’s wedding was the final wedding of our proper wedding season of 2017 and it was SUCH a good finale. (We have a couple curtain calls with 4 more weddings in the year that you’ll see on the blog soon but Lynsey and Elwood were the exclamation point to the end of our main season).

They both got ready in the hotel where everyone was staying, guests and photographer included, then everyone took a bus over to Prospect Park. It was the weekend of Halloween so the park was buzzing with kids dresses up for the holiday, which added a little quirk to the day, in the best way. The couple had their first look on the bridge overlooking the venue, the Prospect Park Boathouse. The boathouse had been in the news this season for a nightmare vanishing caterer, that Lynsey and Elwood had to personally workaround for their own wedding. Watch this news clip. Poor things right? Thankfully Bon Soir swooped in to save the day and everyone was fed and happy. I’m getting ahead of myself here though… first look. Amid all the costumed supermans, and Minnie mouses, they had their first look. It was so cute and I’ll never forget how stinkin’ happy Elwood was to see Lynsey. Not long after, they had their ceremony, as the sun set on NYC. Of course, there was dancing, cake, and music… but there was also a cigar rolling station, a gift from Lynsey to Elwood. I’m so glad we were there. Thanks Kate and Em for hooking us all up!!!

Queens New York Wedding: Nicole and Jeff

O my Lord have mercy do we love these two…

Nicole and Jeff are mega in love and everyone knows it. Being around them is like being around a reminder of what it looks like to be enamored with one another while being completely comfortable with who you are together. Its just right you guys. Just right. We had been looking forward to this wedding since before Nicole had even met Jeff. No lie. We adored Nicole and hoped that one day when she met the truly amazing man that she would eventually marry, that we would be there to witness and photograph it. Dreams do come true!

The wedding took place at the Metropolitan Building in Queens, NY. It’s a huge funky loft space that is what NYC wedding dreams are made of. Views of the Queens, and lots of cool old furniture were everywhere. During the ceremony, they joked about Tinder and guests coming ALL THE WAY from Manhattan, and before you knew it, they were official. Drinks, toasts, dinner, and dancing were up next… including a first dance that honestly made me cry, (which rarely happens during a first dance). Moon River and Close Slow Snuggly Dancing apparently gets me. <3

One very important detail to point out: They are BOTH redheads. Dan wanted me to point that out.

More from Nicole and Jeff: Engagement Session

New York City Engagement Session: Nicole and Jeff

Life is funny… in a good good way. I have known Nicole since 2010, having met her when she was the bridesmaid at this wedding. Then, years later, we started working with her for events, photographing the likes of John Legend, One Republic, Jewel and more. When she and Jeff got engaged not to long ago, we waited with bated breath hoping they would ask us to be a part of their wedding. Thankfully the text/call/email came through and we are going to be there for thier New York wedding. Yassssssss…….

We decided to try something a little different with them since we felt like if anyone was down, it would be these two. Instead of our regular “two-hours-prior-to-sunset” setup we always do, we instead did half the session before and then half the session after the sunset. This meant more work with Off Camera Lighting and environmental lighting… and WE LOVED IT! Thanks Nicole and Jeff for being open to our ideas and for being so so so very in love.

Midtown Manhattan Engagement Session: Maddie and Ray

Anytime we are invited to do engagement sessions where the couple lives we are all.in.for.that! Meaningful places make the photos just that much greater. I know that Grand Central Station is classic, but it really is a part of these two humans lives. Ray commutes to and from CT here and they even used to meet at the clock inside the station for date nights. Meeting them for the first time in such a busy place made us hone in on them and listen harder and work intensely, a flurry of activity happening all around us. New York City is nothing if not exhilarating.

After going full speed from the get go in Grand Central, we walked over to Bryant Park for a little greenery and natural light. Even though this session was a total and complete whirlwind from start to finish, it felt really good to be around these two and their happy happy love love.

Kim and Justin’s Brooklyn Engagement Session

After a fun day walking around the city, Dan and I sat on a park bench watching the ice cream eaters and dog walkers underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. We were just relaxing for an hour before Kim and Justin’s engagement session was to begin. When they arrived, we were so happy to finally meet Justin in person, having only met Kim at a cafe in Cambridge a few months earlier. As soon as we began, we were almost inundated with Wedding Parties and Quincieras all being photographed all around us. At one point, we could see three separate brides, all at once. Apparently we were in the right place for photographs!

We hung out in the park for a while, walking along the water and dancing in the shade. After an hour or so, we headed up to the bridge itself to walk across it and create some unforgettable images. Walking across the bridge has always been a bucket list item for me, so when Kim suggested this as a location I almost jumped out of my office chair. It totally and completely lived up to my expectations. I also really loved that it wasn’t just a tourist location for them. This is where they live and it is meaningful to them. That’s how we like it.

My only piece of advice if you want to photograph or be photographed on the bridge: watch out for the bikes!
