Full Time!

You may or may not know that we both “had” full time jobs in ADDITION to a full-time wedding photography business. We have been working 40 hrs a week each since March, as well as 40 hours a week on our photography business. Day’s off from our jobs at the Kayak Shop and Ski Track, were full days on with Bethany and Dan Photography. Granted our full time jobs where great when compared with most jobs out there, but we worked on OUR business after work, before work, and during our lunch breaks. As crazy as that sounds, it was true. We really care about every bride and groom and are willing to do whatever it takes to deliver a great experience!

Over Christmas we realized that there we needed to take care of what matters the most to us, which is each other. Who is richer the person, the one who works every day of there life and has all the money they need, or the person who  has enough to live and actually has time to live?  No more checking email and working late into the night all the time. We wanted to be able to focus on our business 40 hours a week, and focus outward and inward the rest of the time. We wanted our life to be structured like this: Our Faith, Our Marriage, Our Family, Our Friends and then our Business. It feels like things have been out of order for a while now, so coming to the decision of having Bethany move to only being wife, friend, and photographer seemed like a no brainer. Can I get an Amen?

We cannot wait to be there for all your lovely 2012 weddings.

In loving memory of Tracy Elizabeth Turpen

It is with a heavy heart the we tell you about the passing of one our friends, Tracy Turpen.  The news was shocking and sudden, and her family, especially her fiance Tyler, and her three year old son Evander, need your prayers.

Tracy was the person who lead us to become wedding photographers. She was an accomplished wedding photographer with accolades and ovations that would stun you. Her work is magical. There is no other word for it. Bethany was blessed enough to work by her side for a year, as her second shooter and intern. We have her to thank for setting our feet on the path to running a succesful wedding photography business. Whenever we are stumped for what to do in a shoot, Dan says “What would Tracy do?” and we get back into the groove. The photography community has lost a gem.

The most important thing is that Tracy was so much more than an artist. We can treasure the fact that we got to know her as a friend. She was a loving mother, and a carefree person, FULL of adventures and ideas with no reservations about going for them. She is, and always will be, loved and missed.

Working it 2011

In case you haven’t had the pleasure of being photographed by us at your wedding or portrait session, here’s a little sneak peek on what you can expect.

We are never the only photographers! That is a good thing. Don’t you just love to see all your guests photos too? So many different takes on the day. Sometimes I wish I could do a wedding with just my iPhone and see all the sweet images that I can capture.

I thanked Dan a million times over for doing these shots because even just looking at this carousel shot makes me queasy!

Clearly we were TIRED after a session in the city. Thanks to the T, we could reflect that for you.

I just love this shot of Dan because let’s face it, he makes a HOT photographer. WIN!

Yes. Perilous.

Laying down in glass in Brooklyn.

MBTA photos are illegal I think.

Whew! Putting on the coat after a beach wedding. How in the world does my hair still look relatively nice?

Standing in to test the light for Portraits

A rare red-headed Bethany photo!

It takes a lot to get Lola to pose for Instagram!

Dan dipping me on the dance floor! Rachel, our assistant photographer snagged this shot one second before we fell down. Gotta love it right?

Creeper. No other way to look at this one.

Good God! I have gone insane.

So there you have it. Dan and I are clumsy, happy, committed, and there for your shot. Just say the word.

Las Vegas with Annie

The west is wild. They weren’t kidding! My good friend Annie and I took a little trip to Las Vegas to see Maroon 5, Death Valley, the Vegas Strip, and each other. I had never been that far west before and I was so surprised at how STARKLY different it is from the East Coast. Of course I have “seen” it in photos and I know how it is via movies and photos all my life, however… being there it a totally different ball of tricks. I was amazed at the lights and the SCALE of everything in Vegas. I had no idea that the casinos were basically cruise ships that were not on the water.  We stayed at the Palms Casino where we got to enjoy the greatness that is Maroon 5 in concert. We also took a day trip out to Death Valley, where it was 106 degrees, silent, alone, and enormous. I can’t even begin to make you understand the way it feels to be there. Annie read me an excerpt from her book about death valley and they described it to have “deep solitude” and “awful silence.” I absolutely could not have said it better. I felt like our car was a space ship that we could only exit from for short moments of time and then needed to rush back to the car for safety. It truly felt like another planet. I was so thankful that I wasn’t a person in a covered wagon- lost in death valley. It was awesome and terrible all at the same time.

Things I learned in Nevada:

  • Never take children with you when visiting Las Vegas, nuff said. What were those parents thinking??
  • Make sure to bring water with you to the desert.
  • Just because something looks like it really that far away doesn’t mean it’s close.
  • Neon signs are scrumptious.
  • I am not a club going party girl. I have no real interest in it at all, which was evident by my reading of Harry Potter in the hotel room.
  • The iPhone camera really is pretty darn sufficient for snapshots. Don’t try and make something amazing out of it however. I need to force myself to take out the huge 10lb camera when I really really want to take a photo for keeps.
  • I love the east coast.

So… we had an amazing time.
