Waterboro Maine Wedding: Julia and Ryan

We had only talked on the phone with Julia and Ryan, never having met them in person. Although that happens to us every once and awhile, we always have a tiny worry in the back of our heads that we just don’t really know who we are about to meet. Within moments of arriving though Julia bounded out of the house with a huge smile, a hug and an entourage of friends. We knew were in for a good day.

Julia and Ryan got married in her family’s lakeside cabin that had been in her family for generations. She wore a generational gown and her veil had extremely important vintage family lace on it. A family member had also done all the tailoring for her so the dress was beyond precious. That being said, she was far from fussy about it, rocking that dress in the rain like a champ!

Did I mention it rained. Right after the gorgeous ceremony, the rain started and kept up almost all night. It was kinda perfect timing actually. We all ran into the tent and enjoyed food that I won’t soon forget. Not only did they hire the ever delicious Fire and Company for the meal, but her family also made home-made sushi in the cabin kitchen. I ate more than my fair share of that because when else do you get home-made sushi at a wedding? You tell me!

We loved being a party of this wedding. It was just our cuppa tea.

Verona Island Maine Wedding: Abby and Brian

I imagine that Abby and Brian’s private backyard farm wedding on an island in Maine is kinda a dream wedding for lots of couples. It was almost like out of a Maine fairy-tale really.

Hear me out: The weather was unbelievable. The ladies got ready in a cabin along the water. The ceremony took place it perfect light. The decor was creative and fun, unique and personal. The reception had both live music and a DJ. There was a lighted teepee and a bonfire. The dancing was hilarious, sweaty, and phenom. She wore two on trend and comfortable wedding dresses. Are you with me yet?

It was a wonderful night to be a friend of these two and also to be a photographer.

Liz and Chip’s Orland Maine Wedding

Liz and Chip held their wedding at Liz’s Grandparents lake house in Orland Maine, coincidentally right across the lake from where Kate and Emily had their wedding this past July. It is an amazing property complete with the most epic blueberry field, just right for taking photos of this lovely couple and their friends. I could not, and have not, gotten over Liz’s incredibly styling. Please take note of her dress and jewelry. It was timeless, classy, and SO MUCH FUN to photograph. Her mother is a photographer so Liz was completely comfortable in front of the camera too, which made things pretty simple when it came to portraits. We were definitely not complaining.

The ceremony was held in a 200 year old church and the guests were shuttled from the ceremony to the reception via yellow school busses. They had the cocktail hour in the backyard with their family pets roaming around and mingling with the guests. After the cocktail hour everyone moved further into the woods to a tented reception where the champagne and dancing both flowed without end. It was a blast.

Abbi and Tanner’s Yarmouth Maine Wedding

Abbie and Tanner had a backyard wedding in Yarmouth Maine. Tanner’s family owns Maguire Construction and you should have SEEN all the handmade elements that were a part of this wedding. Tanner made all the tables, the dance floor, the table numbers, any other wood detail you see, and of course the arbor they were married under. It wasn’t just DIY, and we have seen some amazing DIY in our day. It was handmade Maine artisan high quality wood working and we were so in love with all of it. They intentionally chose to have their wedding the weekend of the Clam Festival, an iconic Maine event. Abbi is the sister of one of our past grooms, Thad! It was wonderful to capture another wedding for this family that we have grown to love over the years. It’s a HIGH compliment when a family invites you back again for another event and we are always honored by that gesture. On the wedding day we went to their separate getting ready locations and then we met up and took photos all around town with the Bridal party and then it was off to the ceremony. One moment that I loved was Tanner calming Abbi down right before the ceremony. Like many brides, Abbi was really nervous about the ceremony and all the attention and fuss being made about her. She was getting overwhelmed and Tanner swooped in with his flask of Bushmills and calmed her right down. He told her all she had to do was get out there and marry him and that was all that mattered. She tipped the flask back, kissed her man, and walked right down the aisle after him. It was so romantic and loving and just what I want from any of our couples: to be madly in love with one another and not just in love with a wedding. The reception was full of laughing, dancing, and DAMN good food. There was brick oven pizza and reese’s s’mores. Thank you and YES PLEASE! They even got the perk of Clamfest fireworks at the end of the night!!

Chatham and Charlie’s Winston-Salem, NC Wedding

When Chatham told us she was getting married in her mother’s backyard, we had NO concept of the awesomeness that was in store. Don’t get me wrong, we knew it was going to be sweet and lovely and fun, but we did not know the scale of this “backyard wedding.” To give you an idea, we arrived on scene and saw a deer jump across the wooded driveway as we approached the house. That little bit of magic was just a prelude to the days events and the tone was set. Hugs and hellos greeted us as we came in the house, which was oozing style and southern grace. From the moment we got there to the moment we left, the day was seamless. We started with Chatham and Charlie’s first look followed by a few portraits of the two of them. It was really important to them that they had this special time together just before the craziness of the wedding day happened and we couldn’t have agreed more. They were able to be alone and really soak up their day together. The ceremony was held in the back yard and was followed by a poolside cocktail hour. They raised a monogrammed flag and the party officially started. Guests made their way to the tent and enjoyed mouth-watering cuisine and dancing into the night. They finished up the reception with warm Krispy Kreme donuts. What more could you ask for?
