Diamond Island Maine Engagement Session

When Jess and Eric reached out to us for their wedding we were elated. The reason being is that we already knew their family from photographing Chet and Julie’s wedding a couple years ago. The opportunity to photograph another member of the family is, and always will be, a huge honor. They are salt of the earth good folks and we were thrilled to see them all again at the wedding, (coming to the blog next week)!!

Before the wedding we spent a couple hours with Jess and Eric on Diamond Island, a small island just off the coast of Portland in the Casco Bay. Formerly a military base through WWII, the island is now home to a handful of residents and lots of Maine charm. It was a treat to head out there and see just a few more puzzle pieces of what makes Maine so wonderful. That, and we got to hang out with their cute pup too.

Sebago Lake Maine Wedding: Colleen and Dan

“We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.” ― Robert Fulghum, True Love

This quote was the appropriate and embraced theme for Colleen and Dan’s Sebago Lake Maine wedding. They use it to describe their love for one another and I am in love with that! Weird is a really good thing in my opinion and it was a blast to photograph.

Colleen and Dan had their wedding at Camp Mataponi, overlooking Sebago Lake. The got ready in the camp cabins, which had been lodging for many over their guests over the wedding weekend. At the ceremony, one of their dear friends read the book “I like you” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg in its entirety. If you see it while you are out and about I highly recommend you take a moment to read it yourself. Its precious… kinda like this whole wedding day. After the ceremony it was party time, and guest enjoyed a rustic meal at picnic tables inside the camp lodge. The funny and happy and weird and good-times vibe was everywhere and we think Colleen and Dan are fabulous! I cannot begin to tell you how much I laughed at this wedding, Dan being hilarious the entire time. Im so glad we were there.

Bar Harbor Maine Wedding: Danielle and Josh

After over 5 years of photographing weddings, we were finally invited to photograph a big classic wedding at the Bar Harbor Club in Bar Harbor. We have been to photograph engagement sessions, family sessions, and even an elopement… but we really wanted a chance to photograph a full-scale event in one of Maine’s most treasured places. Enter Danielle and Josh…

Danielle and Josh are high school sweethearts! Photographing couples who know each other this well is always fun. There is a comfort there that’s hard to replicate. We have been excited about their wedding ever since their engagement session in Portland. It did not disappoint. Watching Josh wipe tears from both his face and hers during the ceremony was sweeter than sugar. Danielle was dead-set on having her photos taken at the top of Cadillac Mountain, despite a timeline crunch. Having a bride with such a strong commitment to her wedding photos is really the best ever!!! We made it to the top of Cadillac Mountain with 15 minutes to make magic, and we will never ever forget it. Acadia did us all right that day. The sparkler exit finale was electric and the couple ran off into the night together, setting off on their next adventure.

Camden Maine Wedding: Kristi and Dave

Kristi and Dave love Maine. It’s such a special place to them that they planned their wedding here as a destination so they could share this special place with their closest family and friends. They chose the Camden Public Library as the spot for their ceremony, and alongside their bridal party, with a huge help from their fur-baby as the ring bearer, they became husband and wife. To me, the ceremony was one of the most beautiful and romantic ones I have ever seen. There was a light drizzle in the air, setting a Maine-y mood, which I personally LOVED! Afterwards, they took a boat ride over to the reception, where everyone enjoyed an intimate and snuggly party at the Yacht Club. Good stuff guys… good stuff.

#coxesoutwest2015: LA and Palm Springs

This is the last installment of our #coxesoutwest2015 Series. If you missed anything here are the previous posts: Seattle, Mt St Helens, Oregon, and Idaho

The whole reason this trip was so long was that we had two jobs on the west coast about 14 days apart. One was a wedding in seattle, and the second was a commercial shoot with Starwood Hotels, photographing a concert with John Legend in LA. Yeah. Can’t complain. You can see those photos here: SPG Moments Captured with John Legend

Our final leg of the trip was in California. We had a couple of days there and since we’ve been to LA a couple of times before (2014 and 2011) we took it easy this time. We visited with a couple of our friends and also Dan’s wonderful Aunt Happy. We also went to a taping of Mike and Molly at WB Studios. My favorite part of our CA time though, was going to Palm Springs for a day trip. I’ve wanted to go for a long time and Dan just added it to the trip on a whim one morning when we woke up. Yes please! Palm Springs was unreal to me, everything all colorful and mid-century modern! I could NOT stop taking photos, similar to what happens to me when we are in San Juan. My shutter just wont stop! We went to a couple of hotels to take a look at the decor, and had lunch poolside at the Ace. Can we shoot a wedding here please? Thanks.

LA and Palm Springs Takeaways:

  • A live filming of Mike and Molly is no fun. Sorry to say but we really hated it. The show itself was funny and we liked seeing the behind the scenes. That being said, the Emcee was condescending, verbally abusive, and just plain awful! We were served cold pizza and made fun of for about 4 hours. I was dying to get out of there. Maybe another show would be better??
  • Palm Springs is a must-see and I will be back. Mark-my words. Anyone you know getting married here? We would LOVE to photograph it. We already have photo ideas.
  • We are always humbled and honored when we get to photograph such cool events with SPG. I hope that this merger with Marriott doesnt mean these shows will end. Fingers and Toes are crossed.
  • Its really fun to go back to cities we have been a couple times. I love not having a long laundry list of things to do and letting the trip be casual and easy going. It makes me feel more relaxed and more vacation-y. Dont write off places youve already been as re-vacation spots.

All in all, this was a wonderful trip! I loved the variety of each and every day! I am forever thankful for the job that we have that lets us see our country so often. Our cup runneth other.
