House Island Maine Wedding: Jess and Rhodri

One of the most special venues here in Portland is on House Island. Its a private island in the Casco Bay and involves a lot of planning to make happen, (hence why having a superstar planner is a must). Jess and Rhodri live in London and since many of the guests would be from across the ocean, they wanted to throw a spectacular wedding for them all… but most importantly, themselves.

I adored both of their personalities, a mix of smart dry wit and kind sensitivity. They put me at ease the moment I met them at a coffee shop, long before their wedding day. Nothing changed between then and the wedding day. Genuine good people through and through. The wedding was romantic and silly, just like them. It was a rainy morning but right before the ceremony, it stopped! We have a beautiful Maine day for the rest of the event: 👌

Chatham MA Wedding: Kim and CJ

This family.

One of the highest honors you can have as a wedding photographer is to be invited back to photograph the wedding of a sibling in a family you have photographed before. Such is the case with CJ. His sister is Kelsey, whom you can see here and here. When CJ and Kim got engaged and asked us to photograph their wedding, we were elated. Truly.

Their wedding day was the day after Hurricane Dorian passed over Cape Cod. The night prior was windy and dark and cold and stormy and everything you don’t really want your wedding to be. The morning of though was GORGEOUS! What a relief.

A few things I loved about Kim and CJ’s wedding are as follows:

  • The Weather, always easier to appreciate after a storm
  • That we did the family and wedding party photos by the water
  • A live painter for the couples first dance
  • The Father/Daughter dance, which transformed into an Irish Step Dance, which then evolved into a professional Irish Step dancing performance. —— in.cred.i.ble!
  • Jumping on to a dock with Kim and CJ during the portraits after the tide had come up so far that the only way on was a leap of faith

The most important thing though, and always will be, that they are such kind human beings, which is forever my favorite element of a wedding day to photograph.

Peaks Island Maine Wedding: Lauren and Steve

We had coffee with Lauren and Steve in our neighborhood not long before their wedding. I felt immediately connected to them. Their laughter, comfort, and sarcasm was all I needed to know that we were going to be able to photograph their wedding in a super authentic way. When they let us in, even at the little coffee shop, it was a really good sign for the wedding day to come.

Fast forward to their wedding day and all those qualities were there, and then we got to add all the joy and support from their friends and family to the mix. It was just what we love.

Some of my favorite memories from the day are as follows:

+When Lauren’s veil flew off as soon as I took the photo of her walking down the aisle.
+That they drove off right after the ceremony for a few private moments by the ocean.
+THE INCREDIBLE SUNSET that never fails to distract everyone from everything on Peaks Island.
+The beers they brought in from their hometown.
+Lauren’s outfit change at the end of the night.

Double Shot Weddings 2019

We haven’t done a year-review in a long while but this year we did! Looking back on all the weddings of 2019, I am so grateful for the clients and families who put their trust in us in such an important way.

Some unique highlights of the year included: a wedding in Idaho, a peach wedding dress, alpacas, hand-made lightsabers, a first look on the top of a mountain, teensy elopements, lots of time in rowboats, a bride Irish step dancing, losing power at a wedding reception, photographing a wedding photographers wedding, and I (Bethany) photographed my 200th wedding!! Needless to say, it was a banner year. Here are two photos from each wedding we did in 2019. What a ride.

French’s Point Maine Wedding: Hillary and Kevin

And now… for the wedding.

This past week we’ve been introducing you to Hillary and Kevin via their engagement session and rehearsal dinner, and now today we finally reach the big celebration! After spending those days with them ahead of the wedding itself, I felt even more connected to them. I honestly wish we could do this with all our clients. It just felt different and the joy of finally hitting the wedding ay was magnified for me. I was so happy to see them get married!

We loved the first look with these two since it really was a moment to pause and for them to be alone on their day. After the initial jitters were gone, and the hugs and kisses and tears took place, they were all in on fun with their family and friends.

I hope that through these photos you can see what a beautiful and fun day it was, but even more, I hope that you can see how much love was present on this day as well.
